누구도 인생에서 난민이 될 것이라 생각한 사람은 없습니다. 하지만 전쟁이나 박해의 위험 때문에 집을 떠나 고국으로 돌아갈 수 없는 사람들이 있습니다. 들이 조용히 우리 곁에 찾아오고 있습니다. 한국에도 세계 60여개국에서 온 3만명의 난민신청자들이 있습니다. 2017년 12월 말 현재, 국제사회의 보호가 필요한 6천5백 만의 세계난민 가운데 32,733명의 난민신청자들이 한국에 보호를 요청하였습니다. 그 중 792명은 난민협약과 난민법에 따라 난민으로 인정되었고, 1,474명은 인도적 체류를 허가받아 우리의 새로운 이웃이 되었습니다. 난민은 가난하고 불쌍한 사람들이 아니라 가치와 신념을 위해 새로운 삶을 개척하는 용기있는 사람들입니다. 또한 다양한 재능과 경험으로 한국 사회를 성숙하고 풍요롭게 할 귀중한 자산입니다.
